The gift is an expression of gratitude for British support of Norway during WWII. The tree is usually a Norwegian Spruce. The Great Christmas Pudding Race: this fundraiser for cancer research involves teams carrying pudding on trays while negotiating obstacles.. Canary Wharf Ice Rink: offering fine facilities, festive lighting and holiday music. Tower of London Ice Rink: the outdoor skating season runs from late November through early January. Cabbages and Frocks Christmas Market: located in Marylebone village; supporting London clothing designers and offering new clothing styles, retro and vintage clothing, designer seconds, hand blown glass, sausages and more. Carol Singing at Hampton Court: providing an opportunity to sing festive songs in the courtyards and gardens. Word booklets are provided. Pre-booking is necessary. Christmas at Westminster Abbey: several carol services are held in the Abbey church and at St. Margaret's church. The Royal Ballet's Presentation of The Nutcracker: taking place at the Royal Opera House. This presentation is a seasonal favorite featuring Tchaikovsky’s music. London Christmas Festival: taking place at St. John's, Smith Square; offering 11 days of Christmas concerts. 2008's offerings include three presentations of Handel's "Messiah." |
