Mayor's Holiday Celebration: an annual tradition featuring fireworks, music and the lighting of Houston's official holiday tree. Dickens on The Strand: presented by the Galveston Historical Foundation; featuring a weekend of costumed vendors and performers who combine to create a 19th century cityscape. The event also offers a petting zoo, carolers, street performers, Victorian-inspired crafts and more. Polar Ice Galleria Skating Rink: enjoy some ice skating during the holidays at this 2-level facility that is the "Home of Olympic Champion Tara Lipinsky." Moody Gardens Festival of Lights: located in Galveston; enjoy a holiday light tour with dozens of "festive scenes." Moody Gardens also offers a Festival of Lights Holiday Buffet at the Garden Restaurant. The Heritage Society's Candlelight Tour: offering opportunities to visit some of Houston's oldest historic structures "trimmed to perfection in traditional 19th century décor." Each structure also hosts a different style of family-friendly entertainment from children's choirs to storytellers. Children may also visit Santa. Houston Symphony: presenting several concerts with holiday themes. 2008's concerts include Handel's Messiah, Polar Express and "Very Merry Pops." Houston Ballet's The Nutcracker: offering many presentations of this family favorite for the holidays. |
